Need to find your heart rate? How about with an iPhone?

That’s right, the iPhone can now act as a heart rate monitor.  Thanks to a new module and wireless technology, the iPhone can be incorporated with chest straps or the pre-existing heart rate sensors on many cardio machines.  Instead of having to stop and check your pulse, the iPhone does it for...

My Life
Hey there! My name is Dan Falkenberg, and here’s a little about me. I’ve been married to my wonderful wife since July 9, 2005 (Whew! Good thing I remembered that one.) We live in Columbus, Ohio, home of The Ohio State Buckeyes! Presently, we have no kids, but definitely want to in the next couple of years. Along with being a huge family man, I’m also a man who strives everyday to be more like my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As far as my background, I graduated from Asbury College, in Lexington, KY, with a degree in Exercise Science w/ a pre-med emphasis. The reason for the pre-med part (besides being able to say you were pre-med and have people’s respect for you change right in mid-conversation) is because I always thought I was going to be an orthopedic surgeon. I took the med school entrance exams and even had an internship with a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, but after seeing that family time would be missed out on and the fact that I wouldn’t actually be out of school until I was like 100, I decided to pursue a different career path.

That’s where I am today. I’m an ACE and NASM-PES certified personal trainer, and I absolutely love what I do. I’m the co-owner of Your Live Trainers, a live, online personal training company. I’ve been featured in my local newspaper, The Columbus Dispatch, as well as being a featured writer for ColumbusSports.com, a website that talks about exactly what it says…In case you still can’t figure it out, it’s about sports in Columbus, Ohio, as well as the rest of Ohio.

My first personal training job landed me with Gold’s Gym in Lexington, KY. I later relocated with my wife to Columbus, where I took a job at a gym and my wife became a preschool teacher. Let me tell you, I have great respect for her being able to deal with 20-30 little rascals running all over the place. After training in local gyms, I even experimented with training in the corporate scene. Though all of these experiences were wonderful opportunities, I just never felt satisfied. That’s when I decided to go off on my own and create Your Live Trainers. And let me tell you, I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve created this website to share my passion for fitness and what it means to be healthy. This really is a broad explanation because I also want to use it as a nifty way to share with you my life and whatever else I feel like talking about. Hopefully you’ll find some useful info on here about staying healthy, but I hope too that this can be a fun read for you. I’d love to hear from all and will do my best to respond to all your comments, just be patient because I’m only human. I’ll do my best to keep the comments clean, but if you ever spot one that I missed, I would appreciate it if you would let me know. If you ever have any fitness questions or topics, please throw ‘em at me!

About The Name

I really have no idea how I came up with the name. I kind of was just sitting around trying to think of a cool name, and Fitzy Bitzy popped into my head. I guess you could say Fitzy is because I’m writing about fitness and Bitzy is because so many people have the goal of being thinner or smaller like the Fitzy Bitzy spider…or was that Itsy Bitsy spider. Oh well, I’ll role with it!

What Brings Me Joy!

sports, hiking, water skiing and anything else having to do with hanging out on the water, surfing the web for whatever pops into my head, Man On Fire (great movie), The Patriot (another great movie), The Count of Monte Cristo (the best book ever), daily devotional time, making my wife feel special (i know…i know…it’s mushing…but she’s the one I love)
